(Only 1/2 mile away - a pleasant 15 minute walk on a country lane) The 'Ducal Village' with its fine main street flanked by lime trees dates back to the 14th century and the stone monument was erected in 1714 to commemorate the building of the new Dumfries to Glasgow road. Most of the shops are centred near the monument ranging from the quality gift shop to the traditional butcher. Visit some of the excellent pubs/resteraunts there to enjoy your food and drink.
