About

Welcome to the new Templand Cottages website.

South-West Scotland with lochs, forests & glens, so near-yet so far: you'll be amazed just how quickly you could be enjoying the friendly welcome and peaceful tranquility of Templand, set in the heart of the Nith Valley.
Templand Cottages are near the River Nith with spectacular views down the Nith Valley and only half a mile from the village of Thornhill, with shops, hotels and restaurants.

The self-catering cottages have been tastefully converted from the original 18th century sandstone farm buildings of Templand where the great Scottish historian Thomas Carlyle married Jane Welsh in 1826.
Carlyle described the view from Templand's garden as 'The finest in Scotland'.

"Over the last 6 years to January 2006 around half of our business has been from repeat bookings"

The cottages are situated around a lovely landscaped courtyard, with surrounding gardens and an adjacent wood. Located in beautiful unspoilt countryside, It is an ideal place to walk, cycle, and golf with superb salmon/trout fishing nearby. Explore historic Galloway and visit several places closely associated with Scotland's National Bard, Robert Burns. The stunning Solway coast is within easy reach.

You can enjoy our heated indoor pool & sauna housed inside a cosy log cabin or choose to relax on your cottage patio(with BBQ) and observe the abundant wildlife. Don't forget to bring your binoculars ! We offer free cycle hire for you to explore the quiet country lanes and there is also a games room with pool tables and table tennis.
